What is depression ??

Depression is a disorder of the natural feelings of loss of interest or pleasure in usual activities and in the past (Townsend, MC 1998: 179). The range of individual emotional responses can fluctuate within the range of adaptive emotional responses to maladaptif. Response depression is an adaptive emotion that mall (Keliat. 1996: 2).
Types of Depression Classification of depression can be distinguished: (Wilkinson, G. 1995: 18-26) 1. According symptoms - Depression neurotic Neurotic depression usually occurs after a sad event but is much heavier than usual. Sufferers are often filled with emotional trauma that precedes the disease such as loss of a loved one, employment, property value, or a lover. People suffering from neurotic depression may feel restless, anxious and depressed all at once. They suffer from hypochondria or an abnormal fear as agrofobia but they do not suffer from delusions or hallucinations. - Psychotic Depression Strictly speaking the term 'psychotic' should be used for depressive illness associated with delusions and hallucinations or both. - Psychosis manic depression Manic depression is usually a recurrent disease accompanied by severe mood disorders. People who experience this disorder show a combination of depression and anxiety but sometimes it can be replaced with feelings of joy, passion, and excessive activity of this picture is called 'mania'. - Separation between the two Doctors distinguish between neurotic and psychotic depression not only on the basis of other symptoms that exist and how disruption of behavior.
2. According to the Cause - Depression reactive In reactive depression, symptoms are expected due to external stress such as losing a person or loss of employment. - Depression endogenous In endogenous depression, the symptoms occur without being influenced by other factors.
- Primary and Secondary Depression The purpose of this classification is to separate the depression caused by physical illness or psiatrik or addicted to drugs or alcohol (depression 'secondary') with depression who do not have these causes (depression 'primary'). This classification is more widely used for research purposes of treatment. 3. According to the disease - Depression hidden Diagnosis of depression is hidden (or atypical) is sometimes made when depression is considered the underlying physical and mental disorders can not be explained, for example, the old pain without apparent cause or hypochondria, or otherwise unacceptable behavior can be described as older women who like shoplifting. - Grieving The process of grief is natural and is a necessary reaction to a loss. However, sometimes depression in the elderly are covered by physical illness and disability such as impaired vision or hearing. Therefore, it is important to remember the possibility of depressive illness in older people.
